Freeing up 2–4 nursing hours a day at HQ Toronto
HQ Toronto is a sexual health clinic in downtown Toronto. Nurses there were spending 2-4 hours a day manually posting sensitive test results. We worked with them to build a system that safely handles the routine so nurses can focus on patients.

HQ Toronto is a sexual health clinic in downtown Toronto serving gay, bisexual, and queer men and trans and non-binary people. Every year it receives 10s of thousands of visits.
Nurses there were spending two to four hours a day manually posting test results: HIV status, STI tests, 10-plus clicks per patient across 250 to 300 patients a day. For a sexual health clinic, accuracy and patient consent are the whole point. At that volume, both were getting harder to ensure.
What we built
We worked with HQ Toronto to build an automated system for the routine posting. It identifies negative results, checks patient consent, and queues them for nurse review. Approving a result takes one click and only a few moments when the right information is all in one place. Results go out by SMS, and delivery status syncs back to the electronic medical record (EMR) automatically.
Nurses review every result and retain a full audit trail. The hours they get back free them up to spend more time with patients.
