Community Network

Change from the bottom up

Civic tech community groups are at the heart of what we do. They bring policymakers, technologists, public servants and residents together and empower them to tackle local challenges using technology and design. We’re working to grow the civic tech ecosystem in Canada by supporting and connecting existing civic tech groups and helping community organizers start new ones!

How we do it:

We amplify the impact of existing community groups

We broadcast local civic tech success stories and help local groups connect to share the knowledge and expertise they need to make an impact in their communities.

We help mobilize civic tech community organizations

Are you running or starting a civic tech group in your community? We’ll set you up with the guidance, resources and relationships you need.

We look beyond our borders

We’re inspired by the impacts that engaged residents are having in their communities all around the world. We’ll be collecting and sharing stories and resources from grassroots civic tech groups across the globe, from Philadelphia to Pakistan and everywhere in between.

Bring civic tech to your city

Our mission is to bring policymakers, technologists and designers together to learn from one another and make their communities better places to live. We support grassroots civic tech community groups across Canada by providing the information and connections they need to get off the ground or scale up! Whether you’re looking to connect with other civic technologists, find a venue, secure a sponsor, or just get the word out, these resources can help.

The Civic Tech Toolkit for Community Organizers

Code for Canada’s Civic Tech Community Organizer Toolkit is a digital resource for civic tech organizers, containing advice on how to start, sustain and grow a civic tech community group in your area. Feel free to leave your comments and suggestions on how we can update or improve the toolkit!

The Civic Tech Playbook for Municipal Public Servants

The Civic Tech Playbook for Canadian Municipalities is a guide to help public servants engage with their local civic tech community. The Playbook is currently in the alpha phase, and we welcome your suggestions and comments on how to improve it!

Connect with other civic tech organizers!

Code for Canada is pleased to host a Slack community channel for civic tech organizers across Canada. The channel is a place where civic tech practitioners can learn, share and grow together! Fill out this form to sign up, and we’ll send you an invitation!
