Our Impact
What we accomplished in 2024, and what’s next
Dorothy Eng, CEO
A Message from our CEO
At Code for Canada, we believe in the power of iteration — we’re always learning and pivoting in our mission to improve life in Canada through tech and design.
This year put that belief to the test. Facing a chill on digital transformation projects in the federal government in the wake of the ArriveCan scandal, we embraced partnerships with other levels of government and nonprofits.
While it wasn’t something we set out to do at the beginning of the year, we made the most of the change, creating new and exciting partnerships across the country. We’re proud to say that we are now working coast-to-coast-to-coast on mission-driven work, from helping partners in BC conduct public transit user research, to working with the Nova Scotia government to derisk legacy technologies, to collaborating with a Northern Quebec community on a digital solution to improve residents’ water access.
We also launched our new Options Analysis service, which helps our partners mitigate the risk of service failure by assessing their digital needs and finding the best path forward for them. We expanded our Inclusive User Research service, helping to ensure that public services are accessible to all, not just some, users. And, we continued working shoulder-to-shoulder with civil servants to co-develop better digital products and services.
And though it was a year of change, one thing stayed the same — our commitment to creating best-in-class digital services for the public good. We’re proud to call ourselves a trusted partner to the public sector, and we’ve learned so much from the talented civil servants, nonprofit leaders and civic technologists who have worked with us to make our mission a reality.
I’m excited to share with you the impact we’ve had this year, and where our work is headed next.

2025 Preview
What's Next
We have a slate of exciting work lined up for 2025, with partners at all levels of government across the country. We’re laser-focused on delivering impact, whether it’s through finding a way to transition away from risky legacy technologies to testing digital public services to ensure they accessible to all, not just some, people in Canada.
The stakes of this work are only getting higher — as Canada continues to fall in global digital government rankings and residents faith in institutions remains on the decline, creating digital services that meet the public’s needs has never been more important.
Yet we also believe deeply that we can and will do better. We’ve seen what is possible when civic-minded technologists collaborate with dedicated public sector teams. We couldn’t be more excited for what the future holds.
