Every day, people use online government services to do important tasks, like renewing their passports or applying for employment insurance. Ideally, this would be as simple as online shopping. But we all know how frustrating accessing these services can be.
Enter: Code for Canada. In 2017, a group of digital professionals came together to found a non-profit with a mission to create better digital public services for everyone in Canada.
Unlike for-profit vendors, our goal is to leave our partners with the skills they need to independently deliver digital services. We've worked with over 50 government and non-profit partners, building their digital capacity while helping them create services that work.

Our History
How it all began
Code for Canada was founded in 2017 by a group of civic technologists dedicated to improving life in Canada through tech and design. They launched a fellowship program that ran from 2017 to 2021 and embedded 50+ digital professionals, or “fellows,” within 16 different government projects to work on meaningful digital projects.
In 2021, we sunsetted the program to focus on dedicated service offerings that let us be more flexible and responsive to the needs of our partners. If you'd like to learn more about the fellowship and the work of its incredible fellows, check out our Fellowship Yearbook below.
